Interview: Hair and Make-up stylist Sabina Yunusova

A few months ago I met Sabina through our circle of common friends. Sabina was a very polite and pleasant woman. Back then I didn’t imagine how strong, purposeful and talented an individual she was.

GT: It's truly a pleasure to interview you Sabina, tell us a little how you became a makeup artist and hair stylist?

S: I always liked to look after hair. If I saw anybody with long hair, my hands would automatically reach for it and want to start braiding it. One night I had a dream about how to create a new hairstyle step by step. The next morning I was rushing around the house, trying not to forget anything and trying to recreate the dream. The next night I had a similar dream about another new hairstyle. It was then that I understood that it’s more than just a hobby, it’s my passion! But back then, I was working as a stewardess.

GT: What pushed you to leave a well paid job?

S: I was serving the international route, when during one flight I saw the hairdresser for the President X’s wife. I recognised her immediately and plucked up the courage to talk to her about her job. That time in my life was very difficult, because I was going through a divorce, but talking with the personal hairdresser of first lady inspired me to change something in my life. To be more specific, not just “something”, but everything! I started everything from a new page, moved to a new country (the Great Britain) and decided to do what I liked the most.

GT: So where did you study?

S: I studied at the Bournville College (England), where I completed Hairdresser levels 2 and 3. When I started looking for a job I was given some very valuable advice: It will be much easier to find work if you also know how to do makeup - a 2 in 1. So, I then applied to University College Birmingham and graduated Theatrical hair and media makeup level 3.

GT: Do you have any of your own tricks when you are doing your job?

S: I don’t know if it’s a trick, but when I start working on a look, I start with the hair. If I know what the client wants to do with their hair, I can immediately work out in my head what makeup would be the best. But every job requires deep knowledge. For example, if you know the zones on the head, it’s quite easy to create a hairstyle of any difficulty level. I would love to tell you more about it in the next publication. As for the makeup, after applying basic foundation to the face, I always prefer to start with the eyebrows.

GT: What has been the most interesting project you’ve worked on?

S: I’ve worked on many projects and each of them had something interesting to offer. For the most recent project I had to recreate Mary Pickford’s (famous 1900 actress) hairstyle and makeup. GT: Who is your favorite makeup and hairstylist?

S: Alex Box, she is the makeup artist and creative director of Illamasqua. And my favourite  hairstylist is Patrick Cameron.

GT: Where do you get inspiration from for creating new styles?

S: The Internet is the best source of inspiration! You get hundreds of results when you search Google for “amazing makeup” or “avant garde makeup”. I look through the options, analyze them, take the best from each one, recombine them and generate new ideas. 

GT: What cosmetics do you have in your makeup bag at the moment?

S: My makeup bag is always changing. It always has new products because I’m always testing them on myself. At the moment it’s Mac, MAKEUP FOREVER, Inglot, YSL, Grimmas and Too Faced

GT: What are your future plans?

S: I'm still a newbie in the Fashion industry. I only have 4 year experience hairstyling and 2 years in makeup, but I'm ready to conquer Great Britain.

Sabina's work speaks for it self. She is creating unforgettable looks and she isn't scared of experimenting. She is always looking for new challenges and is determined to reach new heights.

Несколько месяцев назад мы оказались с Сабиной в кругу общих знакомых. Сабина мне показалось очень приятной, вежливой женщиной. В тот день я и не предполагала, насколько она сильная, целеустремленная, а главное- талантливая личность!

GT: Сабина,  почему ты стала изучать парикмахерское искусство и визаж?

S: Мне всегда нравилось заниматься волосами. Если я у кого-то видела длинные волосы, то мои руки тут же тянулись к ним, я заплетала их в косы и мастерила прически. Однажды ночью мне приснился сон. В нем мне показывали пошаговую инструкцию интересной прически, я старательно пыталась все запомнить. Проснувшись, все мои мысли были о том, как бы ничего не забыть и я тут же приступила к эксперименту. Дальше все было как в кино: следующей ночью мне приснился новый урок прически. Я поняла, что это не просто увлечение, это моя страсть! Хотя на тот момент я работала стюардессой.

GT: Что же подтолкнуло тебя оставить прежнюю хорошо оплачиваемую работу?

S: На одном из международных рейсов в бизнес-классе самолета сидела личный парикмахер жены президента Х. Я ее сразу же узнала, не удержалась и расспросила ее о нюансах профессии. Тот момент жизни был достаточно сложным для меня: я проходила через развод. Воодушевившись рассказами личного парикмахером первой леди страны, я решила, что пора в жизни что-то менять, точнее не “что-то”, а Все! Я начала все с нуля, переехала в другую страну (Великобританию) и решила заняться любимым делом.

GT: А где ты обучалась своей новой профессии?

S: Обучение я проходила в Англии, Bournville college- парикмахер второго и третьего уровня. Когда я пыталась устроиться на работу, мне подсказали, что если я еще и макияж научусь делать, то шансы найти работу возрастут, два в одном так сказать. Тогда я поступила в University College Birmingham и закончила Theatrical hair and media makeup level 3. 

GT: Есть ли у тебя любимый прием, своя “фишка” в работе с волосами или лицом?

S: Не знаю фишка ли это, но я, работая над образом, всегда начинаю с волос. Если я знаю, какую прическу хочет клиент, то макияж рисуется в моей голове сам собой. Но любая работа требует прежде всего огромных знаний. Например, если ты знаешь, на какие зоны делится голова, тогда сделать прическу любой сложности не составит мне труда. С удовольствием расскажу об этом в ближайших отчетах. А макияж я люблю начинать с бровей, предварительно, конечно же, нанеся базу на лицо и веки.

GT: Над каким самым интересным проектом тебе приходилось работать?

S: Проектов было много, каждый интересен по-своему. Вот, например, в августе надо было воссоздать макияж и прическу Мэри Пикфорд, известной актрисы 1900 гг. Так как фотографии должны были быть сделаны в черно белом цвете, я использовала другую технику макияжа, нежели обычную. Вот ссылка на youtube, если интересно

GT: Кто из визажистов с мировым именем тебя вдохновляет?

S: Alex Box -ведущий визажист и креативный директор Illamasqua. А из парикмахеров Patrick Cameron.

GT: Откуда ты черпаешь вдохновение для создания новых образов? 

S: Интернет- это чудо! Стоит лишь набрать в гугле amazing makeup или avant garde makeup, тут же выходят сотни вариантов. Я все просматриваю, анализирую, компаную и получается совершенно новый вариант 

GT: Какие косметические средства сейчас лежат в твоей косметичке?

S: Моя косметичка постоянно меняется. В ней всегда появляются новые продукты для пробы, ведь все новинки я тестирую на себе. Сейчас это Mac, MAKEUP FOREVER, Inglot, YSL, Grimmas, Too Faced.

GT: Каковы твои планы на будущее? 

S: Я еще новичок в области моды, у меня 4 года стажа в области причесок и 2 года в области визажа. Я готова покорять Великобританию. 

Работы Сабины говорят сами за себя. Она создает завораживающие образы, не боится новых экспериментов и готова покорять новые вершины.
